Welcome to "BLÅBÄRSBJÖRKEN"

The BILBERRY BIRCH - Wild Routes

I’m delighted to welcome you to a wild new adventure called BLÅBÄRSBJÖRKEN, meaning “THE BILBERRY BIRCH”! Simply, these are two of my favorite plants which deeply connect me to my Swedish roots...& I thought the name was beautiful!

With "Wild routes", being pronounced the same as "Wild Roots", my intent is to highlight two distinct and meaningful concepts. The first one referring to the off-the-beaten-path & outdoor nature expeditions, the second one referring to being deeply connected to the earth & returning to ancestral origins.

The Bilberry Birch runs seasonal medicinal plant walks to help you familiarise yourself with our amazing local co-habitants and explore wild food foraging.

I hold workshops ranging from traditional herbal medicine crafting, herbal gift  making, Kombucha brewing to understanding the art of holistic healing.

The Bilberry Birch is also available for private events & corporate team days! Contact me to arrange a tailored plant walk or private workshop crafted just for your group.

As a community herbalist I offer individual lifestyle & health advice combined with the usage of plants *.

The Bilberry Birch's main call is to remind us that we ARE nature!

In our modern hectic life filled with IT and AI, it’s easy to forget the basic fact that we are part of mother nature and have an ecological role to fulfill just like all other animals.

* Note, I'm not a clinical herbalist, for more serious conditions, I could connect you with fully certified clinical herbalists colleagues.

Hi there!

I’m Sophia, the founder of The Bilberry Birch. I hope I can inspire you to step onto your own wild plant path! There is so much fun to explore & so much true health to gain!

The aim of the Bilberry Birch

The aim of everything BLÅBÄRSBJÖRKEN has to offer is to pull you closer to Mother Nature - to reconnect, enjoy, and gain the knowledge to respectfully use her generous food cupboard and medicine cabinet so you can truly thrive. This is about rewilding your instincts, strengthening your intuition, and deepening your connection with earth. I want to inspire you to re-awaken your inner knowledge by re-discovering the natural world and tapping into your ancestral wisdom - because we are nature, and nature wants to have a relationship with us!

To understand the complex intelligence of plants is deeply empowering, it places the power of healing back into our own hands, rather than outsourcing our well-being to external systems.

Living more in tune with nature allows us to find our true roots, serving as a gateway toward a more fulfilled, holistic & self-reliant life.

Nature has so much to offer right here on our doorstep & embracing it is a vital part of who we are. Stepping into this relationship grants us a deep sense of connection, joy, creativity & positive energy, allowing us to heal on every level: physically, mentally & spiritually.

This is a blissful transformation with no regrets—one that I, along with so many others, am grateful to have made...

About Sophia

I'm Sophia Karlberg, Swedish born and raised. However, I moved to France with my family as a young teenager. I studied Biology and started to work as an environmental engineer in the South of France. In my early thirties, I moved to the UK, to join my now husband. I worked in London in an energy tech startup, but as soon as we had our baby daughter, I set up my own company in Salisbury, 'Sunny Logs,' selling Eco briquettes (which is still active!).
It was in 2022 that I got a deep call to go back to studying nature. I started to study the healing potential of medicinal mushrooms and got certified in Mycotherapy in early 2024. These creatures really blew my mind and led me onto the plant path. I enrolled in a two-year program in herbal medicine the same year with The Plant Medicine School and graduated as a Community Herbalist in June 2026.
In early spring 2026, I got an urge to create The Bilberry Birch. I want to share all the fascinating things about nature with you! I want to be like 'the translator' of the plants—to help people understand the awe of nature and encourage you to engage with it: forage food & cook with them, make plant medicines & communicate with plants. Let them help you feel good on all levels!
I think my call (though I'm still finding my exact path) is to help with 'the welcome introduction.' Then, people can continue their own nature adventure in whichever format suits them best!
